ELIZABETH ENGBRECHT (nee REGEHR) On Tuesday, February 24, 2009, our mother, Elizabeth Engbrecht, passed into eternity. She had celebrated her 96th birthday on October 6, 2008. Mother spent her early childhood in a beautiful and fertile area of the Ukraine. In 1925 her family arrived in southern Manitoba to a new life. After some schooling, she moved to Winnipeg to work as a house maid to help support the family. While in Winnipeg she met our father, Jacob Engbrecht. After their wedding in 1935 they farmed in the Brookdale area. Then they moved to Steinbach and farmed until 1968. The last years of her life were spent in Steinbach Rest Haven Nursing Home where she enjoyed and appreciated the loving care from the staff and made special friendships. Mother was predeceased by her parents, two brothers, her husband Jacob, one grandson, one sister and five brothers-in-law. She will be missed by her children, Elfrieda (Ernie) Peters, Peter (Grace) Engbrecht, and Margaret (Gary) Penner, eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, six sisters and many friends. She will be remembered very fondly. She is in heaven where she longed to be. The funeral service will take place on Saturday, February 28, at 2:00 p.m. in the Steinbach Mennonite Brethren Church, 340 2nd St., Steinbach. Viewing will be in Steinbach, MB Church on Friday, February 27 between 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Interment at Steinbach Memorial Cemetery.
