Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryNICHOLAS HARRY HUMINICKI September 17, 1923 February 24, 2009 It is with great sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of our husband, father and grandfather, Nick Huminicki of Winnipeg Beach on Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at the age of 85 years. Nick is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Olga (nee Legin) and his three children David (Debbie), Donna (Myron) and Edward William (MaryAnn). He also leaves to mourn five grandchildren, Amanda and Sarah Huminicki; Nicholas and Alexis Paryniuk; and Elias Huminicki. As well, he is survived by his sister Doreen Musick and numerous nieces and nephews. Nick was predeceased by his parents Harry and Anna Huminicki; his brothers Paul and Walter; his sisters Christine Nazimek, Mary Trach and Pearl Senick. Nick was born on September 17, 1923 in Winnipeg Beach where he lived on a farm with his parents and his six brothers and sisters. In 1953 he married Olga Legin of Poplarfield and together they took over the family farm and raised their family. Nick farmed over 70 years and never really retired. He continued to farm with his wife and son Edward (Billy) until his passing. Nick was very civic minded. He became involved with the Co-op movement in the late 1940's and in 1980 he was elected a director for Red River Co-op and served in this capacity for 29 years. Nick's involvement with Credit Unions began in the early 1950's and he served as a director to the board of the South Interlake Credit Union from 1979 to 1984. In 1981, Nick became a Municipal Councilor for Ward 6 in the Municipality of St. Andrew's for 15 consecutive years. Nick was also involved with the Manitoba Pool Elevators, the National Farmers Union and the Crop Insurance Board. As a young man, Nick liked to go hunting and fishing with his friends. He also liked to travel with his wife Olga and in latter years he visited many warm and interesting places around the world. Nick loved going to festivals all over the province and rarely missed participating in the Teulon Tractor Pull. He built a family cottage in Arnes, MB where he enjoyed fishing and boating with his grandchildren. Nick loved family gatherings and visiting with his many relatives and friends all over the country. Prayers will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church (corner of Bannerman Arlington) in Winnipeg. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 5, 2009 at the Teulon Rockwood Centennial Centre, 14 Main St., Teulon, Manitoba. The interment will follow at the Holy Rosary Cemetery in Winnipeg Beach. Reverend Father Peter Chorney officiating. Pallbearers will be Greg Musick, Terry Musick, Patrick Huminicki, Larry Trach, Robert Senick and Wayne Senick. All of Nick's close friends are honorary pallbearers.
