WILLIAM (BILL) RIEGER May 4, 1922 - March 6, 2009 It is with profound sadness that the family of Bill Rieger announces his passing March 6, 2009 at St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Care, with his family by his side. Dad was predeceased by Mom, Rose (Mayer) of 52 years in 1994, his son-in-law Jim Belding in 2001, his daughter Carol McIsaac in 2002 and his brothers, Joe, Val, George and his sister Mary. Dad is survived by son Allan (Beverley); son Terry (Marlene); daughter Lynne Belding; daughter Sandi Dixon (Mike); daughter Glenda Evans (Don); daughter Gail Carter (Greg); eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and his brothers Lou and Bob. Bill was born May 4, 1922 in Regina, SK and grew up there. In 1942 he joined the military and served overseas during the Second World War. He met the love of his life, Rose, and married her in 1942 and after the war Dad stayed in the military until he retired in 1972. After retiring from the military Dad started his second career in the administrative department at the University of Manitoba. Dad chose early retirement in order to care for Mom after she became ill. After Dad retired he and mom spent their time together, fishing, traveling and spending time with their children and grandchildren. The loss of Mom in 1994 was devastating for Dad; he had lost the love of his life. He fell back on his close relationship with his children to help him through this difficult time. His happiest moments were those spent surrounded by his family. Dad continued to enjoy exceptional health through his eighties. He was especially proud to spend Sunday's golfing with his daughters Lynne and Sandi. Dad was admitted to St. Boniface Palliative Care on March 2nd, where he died peacefully four days later. The family sends a special thanks to daughter Gail and son-in-law Greg for allowing Dad to spend his last few months with dignity and with those he loved. We would like to extend our thanks to Pam Johnston, nurse practitioner at Cancer Care and the nurses and doctors at the St. Boniface Palliative Care for their kindness and support during this difficult time. Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 11, at Neil Bardal Inc. Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Ave., across from Brookside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice. Daddy, we love you and miss you more than you will ever know. Thanks for your sense of humor, your support and the unconditional love you gave each and every one of us. You will never be forgotten. NEIL BARDAL INC. 949-2200 nbardal@mb.ca
