Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJEANNE MARIE BERNUY (nee ROCHON) Jeanne Marie Bernuy passed away on Friday, March 6, 2009 at the Victoria General Hospital. She was 88 years of age. Born on September 4, 1920, she had a full and eventful life. Predeceased in 1993 by her husband, George, and in 1991 by her son, Denis, she will be lovingly remembered by her son Guy (Diane), daughter Yvette (Paul); grandchildren John (Stacy), Michelle (Wade), Sebastien (Michelle), Nathalie, Catherine (James) and Stephanie; great grandchildren Zoe, Deven and Larissa (and another one on the way), her sister Rita and numerous nieces and nephews. Jeanne grew up in LaSalle, Manitoba, marrying George Bernuy in 1946. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to Wauchope and then Redvers, Saskatchewan where their children were born. They returned to LaSalle in 1957 where they owned and operated the LaSalle General Store. Upon retirement, Jeanne and George spent their summers in St. Adolphe and their winters travelling through the southern United States. In 1989, Jeanne and George became one of the first couples to move into the newly established St. Norbert Chalet built by the Knights of Columbus. The Chalet was home to Jeanne for the remainder of her life. Travel remained a passion of Jeanne's and she has seen much of the world from the air, sea, land and even the back of a camel. Jeanne was an avid games enthusiast who loved playing cards. She particularly enjoyed the time she spent with her bridge club and the many happy evenings playing cards with her Chalet companions. She knit for her family and was known for her cooking. Her grandchildren always looked forward to her home made soup and noodles. A whiz with numbers and finances, she worked for several years as a bookkeeper and was always ready to help family and friends complete their income tax returns as recently as two or three years ago. Also known for having a green thumb and a love of reading, there was not much she liked more than a new plant or book, unless it was cheering for her favourite Canadian curling and hockey teams. A memorial Mass will be held for Jeanne on Wednesday, March 11 at 2:00 p.m. at the St. Norbert Church, 80 St. Pierre Street in St. Norbert. Flowers are gratefully declined. Should anyone wish, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or CancerCare would be very much appreciated. LeClaire Brothers in care of arrangements, 775-2220.
