Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryR. G. (GLEN) DURANT With a great sense of loss and sorrow, the family of Glen Durant, age 73 of Stonewall, announces his peaceful passing on March 7, 2009 after a short battle with cancer. Glen will always be lovingly remembered by his wife Evelyn of fifty years; children Gary (Sherry), David (Tina), and Brenda (Andre) LaFleche; grandchildren Matthew Durant, Amy and Kyle LaFleche. He was predeceased by his parents (Wilbert and Ethel) and brother, Garnet. Glen was born May 17, 1935 and grew up in Grassmere, Manitoba. After finishing school he worked in Winnipeg for a number of years and then at Stonewall Ford. In 1961 he joined the Interlake School Division #21 where he held the position of Supervisor of Maintenance and Transportation, a position that he was dedicated to for over 28 years. In 1989 after his retirement from the school division he started his second career as the General Manager of the Stonewall Lions Manor, which he enjoyed to the fullest until his death. Glen was always highly active in his community, contributing to its development in many ways. Since 1958 he was a member of the Stonewall Oddfellows Lodge #49. From 1971- 1975 Glen was an active member of the Stonewall Town Council, Chairman of the Stonewall and District Hospital Board and a member of the Stonewall Arena Board. Glen was one of the founding members and first President of the Stonewall Lions Club and recently received the Lifetime Charter Member Award for his dedication to Lionism. One of Glen's proudest achievements was his significant involvement in the planning and construction of the Lions Manor in Stonewall, as well as the achievements and contributions of the Lions Club in the community. He unselfishly dedicated much of his life helping individuals in the surrounding area, never wanting any recognition for his efforts. Glen enjoyed curling, golfing, time at the cottage and camping with friends. He loved time spent with his family and his numerous trips to Grand Forks and Thief River Falls. Glen will be forever missed and never forgotten by his extended family at the Stonewall Lions Manor. In keeping with Glen's wishes, a private family service will be held. In lieu of flowers and cards, if friends so desire, donations may be made to the Stonewall Lions Club Medical Fund - in care of Mary Boyd, Lions Manor, 622 Centre Avenue, Stonewall, Manitoba R0C 2Z0. MacKenzie Funeral Home, Stonewall in care of arrangements.
