Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMAUREEN ANNE SWAFFER (nee EDWARDS) 1940 - 2009 Peacefully on Thursday, March 5, 2009, Maureen passed away at Concordia Hospital with her son and family by her side. Maureen leaves to mourn her son James (Jim), her mother Margaret Edwards, twin brother Gary of Winnipeg, brother Ralph (Kathryn) of Calgary, sister Colleen Edwards (Robin McKay) of Ottawa, brothers-in-law Ken (Madeline), Don and Bob (Grace) Swaffer, sisters-in-law Audrey (Don) Harder, Elaine Franks, nieces, nephews and friends. She is predeceased by husband Ronald, daughter Gail, son-in-law John Ashton, father George Edwards, Ronald's parents Victor and Isabelle Swaffer, brother-in-law Jim Franks, and sister-in-law Sheila Swaffer. Maureen was born in Montreal, Quebec moved to Winnipeg with her parents at an early age, where she attended St. Ignatius School and graduated from St. Mary's Academy. In 1964 she married Ron Swaffer and they had two children, Jim and Gail. She was employed by the Singer Co. of Canada, and also worked for McCain Electric until she retired. Maureen loved spending time at their cottage in Winnipeg Beach with her family, especially sitting in the sun reading her papers. She was also an avid Moose Fan and Jet Fan. She also travelled to Hawaii, Europe, Mexico, Alaska and with the Eaton's Retirement Club. Maureen enjoyed bowling, lawn bowling, and family get togethers. The Edwards family would like to give special thanks to Madeline Swaffer and Raymond Bow for their valued help with Maureen during her illness. Also to her special friend Evelyn Boubonnier for her many visits. The Edward and Swaffer family would also like to express their appreciation to Dr. Visch and the staff of N 1 North and N 1 South at Concordia Hospital for their warm and loving care of Maureen. In accordance with Maureen's wishes cremation has taken place. A celebration of Maureen's life will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, at 1442 Main St., Winnipeg with Charlette Novak officiating. Interment will follow in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens, 4477 Main St., Wpg.
