SISTER CLAIRE BRUNET (SOEUR JEANNE-MADELEINE) FILLE DE LA CROIX January 21, 1913 - March 8, 2009 Sister Claire Brunet gently passed away at Foyer Valade on March 8, 2009 at the age of 96. She was born in Montréal on January 21, 1913 to Joseph Brunet and Emilie Sauvageau. She was predeceased by her parents, her brothers, Louis-Philippe and Gabriel who died in a tragic accident; by her sisters Marie-Thérèse and Sister Madeleine, f.d.l.c.; her sister-in-law, Antoinette Laflèche and brother-in-law, Louis Philippe Corbeil. She leaves to mourn, her cherished sister, Lucille Corbeil and a younger brother, François as well as loving nieces and nephews and the members of her religious family, les Filles de la Croix. Sister Claire lived all her young days in St. Boniface where she made long lasting friends. Her school years were spent at l'Académie St. Joseph and in St. Adolphe. After graduation, she spent some time in New York working with the Ursuline Sisters. In 1935, she began her religious formation with les Filles de la Croix in La Puye, France where she made her final commitment in 1942. Following her first profession in 1937, she was sent to Rome, Italy and later on to Fontarabie in Spain and Igon, France. A woman of deep faith, humble and generous, Claire accepted to be part of the formation teams in Europe and in Canada. Kind, loving, joyful, with a fine sense of humor, Claire made a lasting impression on the young women in training. As she would, all her life, she led by example. Upon her return to Canada in 1947, she was stationed in a number of places in Manitoba, Quebec and Saskatchewan. Here again, she was entrusted with the care of young girls, this time in our various boarding schools. She loved music and song and willingly shared her talent. A fine cook, with a great sense of community, she was attentive to the likes and dislikes of various Sisters with whom she lived. We shall remember her as a woman of prayer, of peace, of strength and compassion. She proved a good companion. Her family was very important to her. One of her great joys was the years she spent taking care of her aging mother in Ottawa. To the last she proved a people person, interested in everyone, curious about all that happened at the Foyer and at home. We will miss her and her considerate and affectionate ways. The family and Sisters would like to thank the staff at Maison Ste. Croix and Foyer Valade for the dedicated and loving care given to Sister Claire in the last years. Prayers will be held on Wednesday evening, March 11 at 7:30 p.m. at 66 Moore Avenue. Father Marcel Carrière will preside the Mass of the Resurrection celebrated on Thursday, March 12 at 1:30 p.m., also at 66 Moore Avenue. Interment will follow at St. Adolphe. LECLAIRE BROTHERS in care of arrangements 775-2220.
