FRANCES HAY (nee MCIVOR) Peacefully, on Sunday March 8, 2009, Frankie passed away at the Selkirk General Hospital. She was predeceased by her husband, Adrian Hay; her parents, Duncan and Frances McIvor (nee Flett); six brothers, Norman, Glen, Roy, Jim, Bruce and Charlie; and six sisters, Edie, Mary, Beth, Tina, Minnie, and Rena. Frankie was born in St. Peters, on the family farm, (six miles north of Selkirk). In her youth she worked very hard helping with all the many chores associated with farm life and a big family. She would often fondly recall the thrashing season when she would help with the preparation of meals for the many farm hands. She and Adrian were married in 1948 and enjoyed happy years together on their farm in Clandeboye. She also worked at the S.O.S. store in Selkirk during this period of her life. Like some of her siblings, Frankie enjoyed curling back in those days. She said it gave them something to do over the long winters and was a way to keep in touch with friends and neighbours. With Adrian's passing in 1963, Frankie moved to Selkirk. When the Betel Home of Selkirk opened, she was one of the first staff to be hired as a nurse's aide, working there until her retirement. She was well suited for this job as she had a very caring, compassionate and selfless nature. She had looked after Adrian's parents in her home while living in Clandeboye. Later in life she cared for her sister Rena with much love. Frankie was truly a delightful person to know. She was very personable, strong and extremely independent. She had simple tastes and appreciated the little things in life - always happy with whatever she had. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by sister in law Bernice and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 14 at 11:00 a.m. at Gilbart Funeral Chapel, 309 Eveline St. Selkirk, MB. with Rev. Anton Bouw officiating. The family would like to thank everyone at Woodland Courts Assisted Living for all their care and kindness over the past six years. Frankie truly found a new home when she moved to Woodlands and was happy and content all the while she was there. Thanks also to the paramedics and everyone involved in her care during her final hours at the Selkirk and District General Hospital. We are grateful to you all. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care or arrangements.
