Emma was born in 1916 in Eriksdale, the eldest daughter of John and Annie Forsyth. She went on to teach at Eastland, Nord and Ashern, retiring in 1940 to marry John Mills. After the war they returned to Eriksdale to raise their family. After the sudden death of her mother-in-law, Emma ran the Eriksdale Café for three years. In 1959 she returned to teaching in Eriksdale until her retirement in 1976. She remained devoted to her children and grandchildren and was always interested in the lives of her students. Emma leaves her loving family: son Terry (Carol-Anne Browning), daughter Joanne (Alan Lacovetsky), daughter Dawn, and her very special grandsons, Chris and Alex; sister Nan Elfenson, brothers, Jim (Kathleen) and Art, sister-in-law Iris, many much loved nieces and nephews and very special friend Donna Lavoie. Emma was predeceased by John, her husband of 60 years; sister Margaret Whitney; brother John Forsyth; brothers-in-law, Len Elfenson and Stan Mills; sisters-in-law, Gladys Forsyth and Betty Mills; son-in-law Steve Davis; and nephews, Allan Forsyth and Bill Mills. She was involved in many local activities: a life member of the United Church Women, long time member of the EM Crowe Hospital Guild, past matron of Fidelity Chapter #63 of the Order of the Eastern Star and laterally active in the New Horizons and Senior Resource and the activities they promoted. She remained committed to enhancing the vibrancy of her community. Emma was fiercely independent and remained in her home till the last two days of her life.
