HERBERT UHAN SIELSKI September 18, l921 - March 8, 2009 Dad passed away peacefully at the Tuxedo Villa Nursing Home at the age of 87. Dad is survived by his loving wife, Mary of 61 years; daughter Judy (Ernie); grandchildren, Kathy, Jen (Russell) and great-grandchildren, Declan and Kaylyn. He was predeceased by his parents, brother Ed and sisters, Ruth and Vivian. Dad was born at Winnipeg Beach, Manitoba. He married Mary Fedusik and they spent their lives in Winnipeg's north end and for a while at Winnipeg Beach living next to Dad's brother Ed and his family. He was in the Second World War serving in Italy, France and Germany and received the Italy Star, France and Germany Star and Defence Metal. During his life, Dad enjoyed hunting and fishing and had a variety of jobs including driving a truck for Gimli Fish and working as a mechanic for various autobody shops. He was also quite a handyman and was always working on a fix-it project. After his retirement from the City of Winnipeg, Dad enjoyed many hobbies such as bowling, locksmithing and gardening. He took great joy in his giant sunflowers. But his main passion was golf, which he did not take up until his retirement. He spent many hours playing golf throughout the city and rural Manitoba and was always trying out new golf clubs to improve his game. The family would like to thank all the staff at Tuxedo Villa for their care and compassion of Dad. A special thank you to Marion and Don, who visited Dad often and enjoyed his great sense of humour. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made in Dad's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6 or the Alzheimer Society, 10-120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2. Cremation has taken place and a service in celebration of Dad's life will be held at Chapel Lawn, 4000 Portage Avenue on Saturday, March 14, 2009 12:30 p.m. Chapel Lawn 885-9715
