CRAIG MATTHISEN Peacefully with his family by his side, Craig Matthisen passed away comfortably at home on Monday, March 9, 2009. He loved Luba wholeheartedly, his wife of 30 years. Love tried and true from age 19 when they first met on a rifle range in Shilo, MB she was his one true love. Craig was predeceased by his brother-in-law Andree Gereta. Craig will be lovingly remembered by his wife Luba, his daughters Ryann (Blair Barkley) and Carleigh, son Benjamin (Sabrina), and his grandson Heath Barkley. Craig will also be missed by his mother Edith, sister Lynn Hiebert (Randy), brother Jeff (Zaida), brother Chris (Kim); his in-laws Pam and Roman Gereta, sisters-in-law Anna and Joy (Kevin), brother-in-law Terry (Sue) and all his nieces and nephews. He was a proud member of the Fort Garry Horse Reserves for 11 years and during that time forged many lifelong friendships and memories. Craig loved family get-togethers. He had a big heart and was an excellent host. He made the best gravy. Flying Gliders with the Winnipeg Gliding Club brought him much joy. He loved the peace, quiet, beauty and tranquility of gliding. He enjoyed cheesy kung-fu movies and his extensive personal library of War History was often a topic of conversation. He was a clever man. Craig's years of Military service fashioned him into a powerful and determined leader earning him a lengthy list of accolades during his years with both Maple Leaf Pork and General Mills as a production supervisor. He was a mentor who believed in empowering individuals, leading them to discover their potential. He was competitive and proud. Heartfelt thanks to the many people we were blessed to meet along the way. Dr. Garry Harding, Nurse Cindy Pierce and all of the support staff at CancerCare HSC whose compassion will not be forgotten; also, Dr. Unruh, Rosemarie, Dr. Kevin Coates and Dr. McFlicker. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2009 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. (south of the Royal Canadian Mint). In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Evangel Chapel's Youth Program, 1073 St. Mary's Rd. R2M 3T2.
