GUDNY (GWEN) KRISTJANA PHELPS Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal. Peacefully on Wednesday, March 11, Gudny (Gwen) Kristjana Phelps passed away after a brave and courageous fight against cancer. Gwen was born November 21, 1924 in Glenboro, Manitoba. Her husband of 56 years, Jack Phelps and brother Laurence Svienson predeceased her. Left to cherish Gwen's memories are her sons Gary (Donna), Ron (Kathy), grandchildren, Stephanie, Carly, Trevor, Chandra (Tim) and great-grandchildren Ty, Arlo and Boe. Gwen will be remembered dearly by her only sister Margaret Lukiw, her sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews who loved their Auntie. Gwen worked many years at McGeachie and Holdsworth where she met her husband Jack. After the boys were born, they settled in Charleswood where Gwen worked part time at Vasa Lund and belonged to the Charleswood Legion. In 1980, they retired to Arnes, Manitoba, followed by a move to Aspen Park. Gwen's last years were spent at the Rotary Towers in Gimli. Gwen's top priority was ALWAYS her family. Her generosity and kindness was felt by all who knew her. She loved her music, playing the piano, following sports and her trips to Wal-Mart. The family would like to thank all the staff at the Gimli Community Health Centre for the care that was given to her. At Gwen's request there will be a short graveside service at the Gimli Community Cemetery on Saturday, March 21 at 11:30 a.m. A gathering to celebrate her life will follow on the 2nd floor at the Rotary Towers atrium on 5th Ave. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3C 9Z9 or the Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent St., Winnipeg, MB R2L 1X3. Gilbart Funeral Home, Gimli in care of arrangements.
