F. BLAKE JOHNS Surrounded by his loving family, on February 21, 2009, our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Blake Johns, passed peacefully into the loving care of the Lord and Saviour he served faithfully for his entire life. He was 91 years of age. Blake was a man of great character and integrity, a scholar of the Word. He had three passions; his faith, his family and fishing - he excelled at them all! He taught us well by word and deed the meaning of true love and the importance of family. He will be deeply missed by his wife of over 66 years, Elsie; his three children and their families, Ray and Donna Johns, Glenda and Al Doerksen and Joy and Oral Roset; his six beloved grandchildren, Tracy (Leighton Berry), Laurie (Jeff Kraynyk), Paul Doerksen, Tammy (Mark Capustin), Christy (Jay Stockdale), Evie (Tyson Howells); and 10 great-grandchildren, whose pictures adorned every wall, Sabrina and Dylan, Owen, Avery and Wyatt, Caleb and Emma, Winston, Blake and Jude. A veteran of the Second World War, Dad served as a medical orderly in England. His commitment to health and healing continued for the many years he worked for Pfizer. He loved the outdoors, and instilled his passion for fishing and hunting in his son Ray. But his real character is revealed in the legacy of poetry and song that he has left for his family to enjoy. I met Blake Johns when he attended Manitoba Christian Writers' Association meetings, and quickly learned to love and respect this man of integrity and talent. His zest for life, the twinkle in his eye and the sparkle in his writing warm my heart to this day. I am so sorry I missed the notice of his passing. May the memories you cherish continue strong, and may God give you strength to continue on the journey, following Blake's example. - Posted by: Pat Gerbrandt (fellow writer) on: Jul 15, 2012
