Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryROBERT (BOB) JAMES KAVANAGH April 14th, 1943 - March 6th, 2009 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Robert (Bob) James Kavanagh. Bob is survived by his wife of 44 years Marg; children, Shirley Kavanagh, Colleen and Paul Warren, Jim and Andrea Kavanagh; grandchildren, Carolyn, Charlotte, and Eric Kavanagh and Kyle and Ryan Warren. He is also survived by his mother-in-law Shirley Pincock and his brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his father James, mother Elizabeth and sister Margaret. Bob was born and spent the first part of his life in Winnipeg where he met Marg. He graduated from Churchill High School where he earned top marks in academics. This background provided him with the basis for many scholarships through which he earned his BSc in Civil Engineering at the University of Manitoba, along with a Gold Medal for Engineering. Bob continued his studies in later years, earning his MSc in Structural Engineering from the University of Alberta and a diploma from the Banff School of Advanced Management. Throughout his career he met many associates that became friends and respected him for his professionalism, honesty and candor. Bob retired as a Vice-President with Stantec Consulting in 2001, but continued the relationships he had built over his career. Bob was a great believer in giving back to the community, and he did this through a number of volunteer organizations. In Winnipeg he was presented with two Community Service Awards and in Alberta he was President of CEA, a member of APEGGA and served on FIDIC Taskforce as the Canadian representative on design/build construction. When Bob moved to Edmonton, he became an active member of the Mayfield Rotary Club where he formed life-long friendships. He was a past-president of Rotary and was honored with a Paul Harris Fellowship from the members. In 1965, Bob married Marg, and proceeded to raise a family in Winnipeg and then Spruce Grove. Bob and Marg shared a love for the Pincock cabin in the Whiteshell Provincial Park, and this led them to getting their own cabin at Long Pine Lake in Ontario. Bob was a very avid fan of woodworking, and this love led him to design and build a large addition onto the cabin so that he could provide rooms for all his grand kids. There was little that he looked forward to more than sharing hot chocolate and sunrises with the grandchildren. His family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr T. Ranieri, Dr. Q. Chu and Dr J. Scrimger. A celebration of his life will be held in Edmonton on March 17th. In lieu of flowers, donations are gratefully appreciated to Alberta Cancer Foundation - Lung Research or the Royal Alexandra Hospital Foundation - Neo-Natal ICU, or a charity of one's choice.
