GEORGE BARRY WHERRETT On Friday, March 13, 2009 George Barry Wherrett passed away at the Tuxedo Villa. Barry was born in Shoal Lake, Manitoba, where he took his public school education. He went on to the Provincial Normal School, the University of Manitoba and the University of North Dakota. He taught school or worked in recreation at Rathwell, Selkirk and Neepawa. He worked with the Parks Branch on Hecla Island, owned and operated G.B.'s Lunch in Riverton and a Macs franchise in Winnipeg. He spent seven years on Selkirk Town Council and many years volunteering for the Red Cross Water and Small Craft Safety programs. Barry was predeceased by his parents, Fred and Olive Wherrett and by his brother Birks. He is survived by his brother John and nieces and nephews, Tom, Iris, Mark, Lynne, Al, Beth and their families. Flowers are gratefully declined. If one wishes to make a donation in Barry's memory to a charity of one's choice, it would be greatly appreciated. Cremation has taken place. There will be no formal service; interment of ashes in the family plot at the Shoal Lake Cemetery will take place at a later date.
