KONSTANTIN (STAN) SIMEONIDIS Peacefully, on March 14, 2009, Konstantin (Stan) Simeonidis passed away at the age of 91. Stan was predeceased by his beloved wife, Fridl in 2004. He will be lovingly remembered by his children Christopher, Undine (Ernie), and Fred (Sandy), his grandchildren Christine (Jeffrey), Nicholas, Samantha, Janice, Barbara (Boyd), David, and his great-grandchildren Kaleb, Noah and Zoe. Stan was born in southern Russia in 1917 to parents of Greek descent. He was the son of a school teacher. Stan attended University of Novercherkask and graduated as a civil engineer. With the advent of the Second World War, he was conscripted into the army of the Soviet Union, and captured by the Germans in 1941. He spent the remainder of the war in a German prison camp, surviving with very much help from his strong faith. At the end of the war, he met and married his wife, Fridl, and he remained by her side for over 55 years. Together they immigrated to Canada and arrived in Winnipeg in the fall of 1955. It is here that they met a group of people that would become their life-long friends. These were the people of the Portage Avenue Brethren Church. Given his entrepreneurial spirit, Stan went into business for himself and despite overwhelming obstacles, developed a highly successful structural steel business for himself and for his family. During this time, he met many people in related areas of business, whom he inspired with his outstanding personal values and business acumen. Throughout his life Stan was consistently caring, considerate and an example to his children, not only in his scrupulous values, reflected in everyday life but also in his strong personal faith in Christ. In his values, his actions and his successes, Stan was exemplary and consequently, is and always will be missed. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 18 at 11:00 a.m. with viewing at 10:00 a.m. at the Portage Avenue Church, 1420 Portage Avenue. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada or the Manitoba Heart Stroke Foundation.
