JOHANNES (JOE) OLAFUR MARKUSSON Peacefully, on March 14 at the Betel Home in Gimli, our wonderful Dad, Afi and Lang Afi, passed away at the age of 107 and a half years. Predeceased by his loving wife Emilia; his parents; Gudmundur and Ingibjorg, his sister; Gudny Peturson, brothers; Oli, Finnur and Sveini, daughter-in-law; Margaret Markusson, grandson; Lorne Markusson and grandson-in-law; Jerry Marks. Lovingly remembered by his sons; Gudmundur Mundi (Ethel), Albert and daughter; Sigurros (Robert) Kristjanson; grandchildren; Shauna-Lee (Bob), Gail, Jo-Anne (Steven), Daphne (Keith), Dianne, Larry (Marie), Cynthia (Richard), Janet (James), Sandra (Terry), Roberta (Bill), Chris (Jennifer), 22 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. Johannes was born in 1901 in Arnes, MB. In 1927 he married Emilia Ingibjorg from Geysir and they settled in Arnes. He was a farmer and a fisherman. In 1981 Johannes and Emilia moved to Gimli. In 1999 he became a resident of Gimli Betel. Dad was very happy to have his granddaughters Shauna and Janet and his great granddaughter-in-law Cherine working at Betel. Dad, Afi and Lang Afi was a very kind and gentle man; always interested in the lives of his family; he very much enjoyed visits from family and friends. We are all very blessed to have had him with us for so many years. Funeral Services will be held at the Riverton-Hnausa Lutheran Church on Friday, March 20 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Trudy Thorarinson officiating. Interment will take place in the Hnausa Cemetery. The family would like to thank Dr. Chapnick and would also like to extend their appreciation to the Betel Staff for all their caring and kindness.
