IRENE WINSOME GOBERT Irene Winsome Gobert died March 13, 2009 at the age of 87 at the Deer Lodge Health Centre in Winnipeg after a long struggle with pulmonary fibrosis. Born in Winnipeg on January 15, 1922 to Mel and Margaret McLeod, she was predeceased by her husband Bert (Mancil Joseph Gobert) in 1984 and elder sister Elizabeth in infancy. She is survived by sons Bill, and his wife Joan of Saskatoon, Bob of Vancouver, and Gar and his wife Tammy of Moose Jaw, daughter Ellen Pile and her husband Dave of Winnipeg, and the lights of her life, her grandchildren Alyson, Jayne and Brett Pile of Winnipeg and Julian and Ceinwen Gobert of Toronto. She also leaves behind her best friends, her sisters Jean Wittig and Doreen Bailey, both of Winnipeg. Win served as a Wren in Scotland during the Second World War, returning after the war to Winnipeg to work in the provincial Mines Branch, where she met Bert. They married in 1948 and together raised a family of four children in Selkirk, Manitoba, returning to Winnipeg as the children left home. She was totally devoted to her husband and their family. To Bert and Win family was everything. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother and mother-in-law, but it was later in life that she realized her ultimate calling as Grandma, a role she perfected over three decades. Win was the centre of the family. Though she loved travel and had seen Europe, South America and Canada from coast to coast, her natural setting was on the deck at Clearwater Bay, under the summer sun, presiding over kids, grandchildren, friends and dogs. She loved her family unstintingly and saw her love returned full measure. The incredible importance of Win in everybody's life will leave a great hole that can never be filled. Of great importance to Win in her later years were her University Friends and her Saturday night Scrabble group at Armadale Hollows. Cremation has taken place. There will be no funeral; a memorial service will be held in the summer when all family members can gather in Winnipeg. Flowers are gratefully declined. Perhaps you could give your loved ones a hug in her memory or make a donation to the charity of your choice. THOMSON IN THE PARK 925-1120 Send expressions of sympathy to www.mem.com
