DOUGLAS RENE TURNER Peacefully, on March 14, 2009, surrounded by his family, Doug passed away at the age of 74 years. Surviving him are his loving wife Lynn, daughter Laura, sons Brian (Debbie) and Andrew, grandchildren Scott (Melinda) and Justin Turner, Jenna and Colin Smith, brother Don (Dale), brother-in-law Tom (Marianne) McClusky, nieces Darlene, Wendy and Linda. He was predeceased by his father Jim and mother Bertha. Doug was born in Winnipeg on March 8, 1935 and married Lynn in 1958. They celebrated their golden anniversary this past August. Doug began his career with Manitoba Telephone System in 1953, retiring in 1993 after nearly 40 years of service. He began his career as an Installer and progressed to Area Services Manager, complete with a car and an office'. After retiring, Doug was very generous with his time, devoting many hours to Habitat for Humanity and the Winnipeg Minor Hockey Association as Secretary, and most recently as a volunteer at the Seven Oaks General Hospital. Doug was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He played an active role in his children's and grandchildren's lives, always offering love, encouragement and mentorship. Doug was well respected and loved by all who had the privilege of knowing him and will be very sorely missed. Special thanks to the staff at Health Sciences Centre for the excellent care he received during his brief stay there. Memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 19, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street. In lieu of flowers, donations to CancerCare Manitoba or Habitat for Humanity would be appreciated. Dad, we saw how bravely you fought to stay with us. We will miss you dearly, and you will remain forever in our hearts. Glen Eden Funeral Home 338-7111
