ALFRED ROBERT COUMONT It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, great father, extra-ordinary grandfather Alfred Robert Coumont of Selkirk, MB. With his family by his side, at the Selkirk General Hospital, Dad passed away on March 17, 2009 at the young age of 73. At the age of 58 Dad was diagnosed with Parkinson's. Towards the end of his days Dad was having a very difficult time, even though we are very saddened with this loss, it gives us comfort to know he is at peace. Dad was born October 16, 1935 in Prince Albert, SK. Dad was the youngest of 16 children. Mom and Dad got married February 9, 1963 and had a joyous life together for a wonderful 45 years. Dad was predeceased by his parents William and Elizabeth Coumont, in-laws Walter and Rose Kulchyski and 13 brothers and sisters. In Dad's passing he leaves to mourn his loving wife Virginia and his children Robert (Lorraine), Brenda (Tim), Perry (Dana), grandchildren he loved so dearly Scott (Alyshia), Ashley (Jordan), Alyssa, Cale, Cheyenne and Ryan. He leaves his brother, Wilfred and sister Isabel, his in-laws Brian Lamb (Shirley), Bill Lamb (Lorraine), Lois Moffatt (Brian), Pat Wur (Mick), Jean Coumont and numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends. Wayne, Debbie and Clarence held a special place in his heart. Dad was a very athletic man, from hockey to curling, baseball to golf, Dad was always up for a good challenge even right up to the old-timers hockey where he was a feisty competitor. Dad worked at the Manitoba Rolling Mills for 38 years. During his spare time Dad enjoyed helping many family and friends with his carpentry skills. There are many homes Dad has laved his hands on. From rec rooms to bars, garages, fences and patios. If it could be built Dad could do it. Dad very much enjoyed his trips with his old-timers hockey club the Selkirk Settlers, his golf days at Selkirk and Mars Sandhills with his many buddies. Dad loved to tell jokes, many times he would have a hard time telling the joke because he was laughing so much. The joke may not have been funny but Dad's infectious laugh would make it just that. Dad's main love was his family. Always making sure everyone was alright, and lending a hand whenever needed or a shoulder to lean on. Dad will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. May he rest in peace knowing all the love, compassion and wisdom will live in our hearts forever. It gives us great pleasure to know that he will now be reunited with his Pal. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, March 20 at 1:00 p.m. in the Christ Church Anglican, 227 McLean Ave., Selkirk with Rev. Brad Elliott officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Special thanks to Dr. Demsas and the nursing staff at the Selkirk General Hospital. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
