ROY KEEBLE 1921 - 2009 Peacefully, at the age of 87 years Roy passed away at St. Boniface Hospital on March 13, 2009. Roy leaves to mourn his loving wife of 65 years Irene; daughters, Brenda Unfried (Charles) and Sandra Solar (Donald). Roy also leaves five loving grandchildren, Christopher Unfried, Carla Machado (Shawn), Meaghan Solar (Brent Colgan), Jessica Solar (Stuart Josselyn), and Adam Solar. He is survived by his sisters, Queenie Mills and Mary Rankin; numerous nephews and nieces and extended family in London, England. Roy was predeceased by his parents Arthur and Elizabeth Keeble and brother Ted. Roy was born in West Kildonan and while growing up enjoyed playing soccer and hockey in the local area. In 1941 Roy enlisted in the Canadian Army and served five years overseas during the Second World War. During that time he met and married Irene Gee. After the war they settled in East Kildonan. During his working career Roy worked for Ashdowns and then BA Oil; Gulf Canada; retiring in 1983. Roy and Irene enjoyed a long and full retirement together. They spent time travelling in North America and England. Roy and Irene also enjoyed curling, bowling, and playing darts where they met numerous good friends. Roy was always a hard working assistant to both sons-in-law during any renovation job at home or at the cottage. We could always count on Dad to be there when help was needed. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family. He always looked forward to attending the various family birthdays and celebrations that had taken place over these many years. Roy was a long-time member of the Elmwood Legion. Thank you to the staff of the 6th floor Geriatric Ward at St. Boniface Hospital. The family sends a heartfelt thanks to Dr. Konrad who always took time to give Irene the Strength for the Day through phone calls, sharing information and supportive words. We would also mention nurse Greg for his gentle words letting us know that Roy had left us for a better place. The family acknowledges the support of the Home Care Team who was with Roy daily for the past 8 years always showing patience, understanding with quick wit and a friendly word to start the day. Irene is blessed with numerous friends and daily visitors; The Ladies of 1660; their jokes, laughter, and visits are always appreciated. A memorial service for Roy will be held at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street on Monday, March 23rd at 11:00 a.m. Cremation has taken place.
