DOUGLAS THOMAS BISHOP It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Douglas Bishop on March 21, 2009 at the Health Sciences Centre, after a short battle with cancer. Doug will be greatly missed by his daughter Doreen (Tom) and grandsons, Andrew and Russell Moore; his sister Thelma Charlton of North Vancouver, and numerous nephews and nieces. Doug was predeceased by his loving wife Pauline; his children Gordie and Caroline; parents Robert and Elsie; sister Joan Tait; brothers, Frederick, Robert, Walter and Craig. Doug was born September 22, 1928 in Sydney, Nova Scotia, the youngest of six children. Doug moved out on his own at the age of 14 to find work in Montreal. He became an Autobody painter, which he did for many years. He later moved the family to Winnipeg and worked at the HSC where he took an early retirement. He did return to the work force for an additional five years with Sears. But his greatest love was caring for his grandsons, followed closely by his love for the Montreal Canadiens. Dad incurred many losses in his life; his mother died at childbirth along with his twin brother, Frederick. His two young children died in the Montreal explosion of 1965, as well as losing the love of his life, Mom (Pauline) too soon. Through all of this, Dad was never bitter and maintained his love of life. He had a gentle soul, kind heart and loved to talk to everyone. No words can express the loss of such a wonderful father, grandfather and friend. The family would like to like to thank the staff at HSC Rehab 6th floor for the care and compassion that they showed our Papa in his final days, especially nurses Carol, David and Michael and Dr. Ahmed. Viewing will be held at Wheeler Funeral Chapel, 211 Regent Ave. West on Wednesday March 25 at 7:00 p.m. and a service to take place on Thursday March 26 at 10:00 a.m. followed by a reception. Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Our thoughts go out to Doreen and family. We all have very fond memories of Uncle Bricky being with us at our country house most summers. Also the last visit he came to Hamilton to see our Grandmother (wife of his brother Walter Bishop) which was a great time for all of us. Lots of Love Janet (Scoobie) Jennifer and Diane - Posted by: Janet MacLean (Family) on: Mar 23, 2009
