Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDR. WILLIAM (BILL) SCOWCROFT BScAgr, PhD, FAIAST December 10, 1939 - March 16, 2009 Cherished husband to Caroline. Beloved father and father-in-law of David and Catherine, Melissa and Emmet, and Jane. Bill passed peacefully on Monday, March 16, 2009 at The Canberra Hospital in Australia. In 2001, while living in Winnipeg, Bill was hospitalized with an exacerbation of COPD and spent 14 weeks in intensive care at the Grace Hospital. Afterwards, he resumed work as Director of the Grain Research Laboratory at the Canadian Grain Commission, never taking a sick day before retiring at age 66. In 2006, he and Caroline returned to Canberra, Australia. Bill enjoyed his retirement until the very end; exercising, gardening, advocating for COPD awareness and playing in Scrabble tournaments.
