DR. STANLEY FREDERICK SMILEY April 13, 1919 - March 24, 2009 Stanley passed away at the age of 89 years at the Riverview Health Centre. Remaining to forever cherish Stanley's memory are his wife of 27 years, Joyce; step-daughters, Sharlene and Linda (Ed); grandsons, Skye, Randy and Kris; sister, Stephanie Aker; cousin, Morris Botink, extended family as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Stanley was predeceased by his parents, Steve Smylski, in 1977 at the age of 89 years and Alice Smylski in 1983 at the age of 93 years. Contracting polio at a young age Stanley, despite his illness, graduated from Optometry College, Toronto in 1940. His practice was in Winnipeg on Selkirk Avenue and then for many years on Cathedral and Main. Stanley married Joyce in 1981 and became part of her family. He enjoyed many family gatherings. He loved music, painting and playing 649. Stanley also enjoyed travelling and made many trips to the United States and Mexico. On Wednesday, April 1 Stanley's funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Memories in Wojcik's Funeral Chapel, 1020 Main Street at Manitoba Avenue. Special thanks to Pat, Judy, Caroline, Paulette and all the staff of D4 at Riverview Health Centre. We appreciate the care given to Stanley. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Riverview Health Centre for patient activity or to a charity of one's choice.
