BRIAN GEORGE WALKER January 17, 1940 - March 17, 2009 It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Brian Walker, caused by a heart attack, while vacationing in Mazatlan, Mexico. Brian was predeceased by his parents, George and Nellie, and brother Harvey. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Marlene, son Terry, daughter Carolyn (Kevin Rieberger), his adored grandchildren, Claire and Jeff, and many friends and relatives. Brian was born, raised and educated in Winnipeg, Manitoba and completed his certification as a Registered Industrial Accountant in 1969. In 1980, he moved his family to Victoria to enjoy life on the west coast. He worked for the federal and provincial governments until his retirement in 1996, and was also the owner and operator of several New York Fries stores in Victoria, Kelowna, Kamloops and Vernon. Brian volunteered for several organizations including the United Way and the Oak Bay Power Squadron. Brian participated in many sports and activities over the years including curling, softball, wallyball, skiing, and, most recently, ballroom dancing. Brian was an avid boater and an active member of the Victoria Cruising Club and Sidney North Saanich Yacht Club. Brian and Marlene spent many enjoyable days with their cruising friends aboard their 34' Bayliner, the Merridale II. Brian served as the Club's Commodore in 2005 and recently received his coveted induction into the Capital City Yacht Club. Brian loved a good laugh, a good party, a good debate, and a good deal. He was a loving and generous husband and father and a wonderful Grandpa and will be dearly missed by those who knew him. A celebration of Brian's life will be held at the Sidney North Saanich Yacht Club on April 9 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Flowers are gratefully declined, but for those wishing, a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
