PETER FREDERICK CHARLES WILLIAMS November 4, 1932 March 22, 2009 Peacefully, with family by his side, Peter Williams died on Sunday, March 22, 2009. Peter will be cherished as a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. Peter was born November 4, 1932 in London, England. Having lived through the war years and seeing bombing, poverty and death, Peter arose to serve in the Royal Air Force, begin a lifelong love of journalism and pursuit of peace. Peter married Diane Hackett in 1957 and the couple moved to Canada where they started their family, raising three daughters, Catherine, Laura and Jacquie. After deciding to enter into ministry in the United Church, he began his education at McMaster University and was ordained in 1968 from Emmanuel College. Peter served in 3 charges during his ministry including Lucky Lake United Church (Lucky Lake, Sask.), Knox United Church (Saskatoon, Sask.) and Young United Church Crossways in Common (Winnipeg, Man.). Peter was predeceased by Diane in Saskatoon and toward the end of his ministry at Young United Church, married Ruth Campbell. Peter and Ruth would spend their years together enjoying days at the cabin, travelling around the world and being with their children and grandchildren. Having been raised during Second World War Peter had begun his lifelong spiritual journey and pursuit of peace. In keeping with this journey was his involvement in teaching at the Faculty of Theology (Certificate Program) and upon retirement, his active involvement at Immanuel United Church in the Men's Study Group and Worship Committee. Peter also enjoyed volunteering at Winnipeg Harvest, The Manitoba Museum, North End Community Ministry and was an active member of the Outlook Club. Peter thoroughly enjoyed his involvement with his church's theatre groups, both Interesting Theatre and Immanuel Players. Peter was a kind and loving man who was dearly loved by his wife Ruth, his three children, five step-children and 17 grandchildren. Also left to cherish his memory are his three siblings, Barbara, David and Alan. They will remember his giving heart, his thirst for knowledge and laughter, his love of life and belief in all things just. A Memorial Service to celebrate Peter's life will be held Tuesday, March 31, 2009 at 11:00 am at Immanuel United Church (Golspie Kimberly, East Kildonan, Winnipeg, Manitoba). We request no flowers please but if friends so choose, donations may be made to West Broadway Community Ministry or Immanuel United Church Outreach Program.
