Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJAKE GOWRYLUK February 11, 1927 - March 26, 2009 Great-Grandpa Jake passed away peacefully in his sleep around 8:00 a.m. at the Concordia Hospital. Jake, aged 82 years of Kirkness, MB was predeceased by his wife and soulmate, Virginia (April 7, 2001); his sisters and brothers, Betty Kuly, George, Bill, Mike, Steve and his parents, Ann and John. He is survived by his sisters, Katherine and Lillian; son Kim (Angela); grandchildren, Susan Wintoniw (Steven); great-grandchildren, Hannah and Liam; grandchildren, Daniel; Renate, Laura, Alexander and Alexis; daughter, Robin Korba (Gary), grandchildren, Dylan and Georgia; daughter, Jill Nesplak (Rob Tilby) and grandchild Kirsty; extended family, Charles Pilgrim, Kimya, Tristan, Jelissa. In his lifetime, Dad adapted to the many changes and challenges that were thrown at him. He worked various jobs from Bristol Aircraft, the building of the MB Hydro Steam plant; and finally retiring from the CNR car shops. During all those years Dad farmed, first on his own farm (which was taken by the Hwy. 59/44 overpass) when he eventually purchased the family homestead, building the fourth house on that property. He loved the land which he was born on but more changes to his life would come. From a tough man o'the land who worked with his hands he suddenly had to add the role of caregiver to his infant and toddler grand-children when Mom died. Dad lived for his grandkids who were his driving force and always spoke about each one with love and pride. His slow decline was noticeable as they grew and became more independent. We wish to thank the staff at Concordia Hospital, Dr. Lagowski and Darwin Cheasley (Parker's Pharmacy) for their care and humane professionalism. Donations may be made to a religious or charitable organization of your choice in lieu of flowers. Funeral services will take place at Gilbart's Funeral Home, 309 Eveline Street in Selkirk on Thursday, April 2, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. with viewing prior to. Interment will follow in the Ashfield Cemetery. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
