FLORENCE ANNE MACKENZIE January 5, 1914 - March 27, 2009 Florence passed away peacefully with her family by her side at the age of 95 years. Remaining to forever cherish her memory are her son John (Pat); daughter Margaret; grandchildren, Christie (Chris), Jen, Kelly and Jeff; great-grandchildren, Kole, Jessie, Kaden, Brandon and Shayla. Florence was predeceased by her husband Bert and sister Margaret. Florence was born in Stranraer, SK. She was educated in Dauphin, Plumas and Glencairn, MB. Florence then attended Brandon College, graduating with a B.A. in 1933. She received her diploma in education in 1934 from the University of Saskatchewan and taught in Makaroff, Sanford, Grosse Isle and Brookdale in Manitoba from 1934 to 1941. Florence took her officer's training in the R.C.A.F. (Women's Division) in 1943. She served in Ottawa, Vancouver and Patricia Bay as a Section Officer and was discharged in 1946. In 1947 Florence received her Bachelor of Library Science from McGill University. Florence and Bert were married on graduation day May 31, 1947. In 1948 the MacKenzie's moved to Winnipeg where their children were born, John in 1948 and Margie in 1953. They lived in Windsor, ON from 1957 to 1966 when the family returned to Winnipeg. Florence then began her career with the Winnipeg Public Library, where she remained until her retirement in 1979. Florence could always be seen with a book in her hand and continued to enjoy her love of reading until the final weeks of her life. Florence's kind and friendly manner brought comfort and happiness to all around her. She took so much pleasure in spending time with her family, especially her five great-grand-children. Special thanks to all the caring staff at Pembina Place and previous residence Fort Garry Care Centre. To our friends and family, thank you for all your love and support. Memorial service will take place on Wednesday, April 1 at 1:00 p.m., Grassmere United Church. For directions please contact Florence's family or MacKenzie Funeral Chapel.
