Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOSE DOS SANTOS FONSECA It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of Jose dos Santos Fonseca on Monday, March 30, 2009. He was predeceased by his parents, Antonio and Lousia Fonseca. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 39 years, Dorvalina Carmo Cabral, his sons, Antonio (Brigitte Bisson), Danny (Doris Carreiro), his daughter, Tracy (Kevin Trask), and his grandchildren, Sophie, Noah, Mia, Dolce, Kaiya, and Gavin. Jose also leaves behind his sister, Lurdes (Luis Sousa), and his brothers in Portugal, Antonio (Filomena), and Liberal (Filomena). He will also be missed by his aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, extended family and friends. Jose was born on April 29, 1945 in Sao Miguel, Acores, Portugal. Jose, being the oldest sibling, worked hard to support his family as he was growing up. He served in the army and worked for the government. In 1970, Jose immigrated to Winnipeg, to join his future wife. He was a devoted husband and father. He stressed the importance of family and heritage. He believed in fairness and equality. His children and grandchildren will miss his kindness and his generous heart. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren and was very proud of them. Vavo enjoyed teasing and playing with them. His home was their playground. We would often see him relaxing and sharing some treats with them. They will surely miss their grandfather. He also took great pleasure in social gatherings. He would often be seen joking and laughing with family and friends. He had a beautiful smile and loved to laugh. Jose enjoyed spending time at his cottage in Winnipeg Beach. He has been fortunate to have returned to the Acores to visit with family. He also enjoyed vacations in Florida, visits with relatives in Toronto, as well as visiting his son in Calgary. Jose worked for Coca Cola for 32 years. He took pride in his employment and was a valuable member of the company. He would always greet his co-workers with a smile and he would never refuse any task handed to him. He will be remembered for his dedication and hard work as well as his Coke memorabilia. A devout Catholic, Jose will be remembered for his love of singing. Some of his favourite times were spent with his friends in the choir as they travelled to different villages in his homeland. In Canada, he led the mass in singing for many years and was an active member in the community. He participated in many volunteer groups and assisted with different fundraising activities. Prayers will be held on Thursday, April 2 at 7:00 p.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church, 181 Austin Street, North. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, April 3, at the church at 10:00 a.m. with Very Rev. Fr. Jose Eduardo Medeiros, V.F. Interment will follow at the Assumption Cemetery. We would like to thank the staff at the Seven Oaks Hospital with their kindness and support. We would also thank all of the family and friends who supported our family during our time of need. It will always be remembered.
