Born: Nov 15, 1914
Date of Passing: Mar 29, 2009
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJEAN DELPHINE BIRCH (nee McDOUGALL) November 15, 1914 - March 29, 2009 Peacefully on Sunday, March 29, 2009 at Riverview Health Centre, Jean Birch passed away at the age of 94 years. She was predeceased by her husband Jack, sister Helen Harwood and her parents. She will be deeply missed by her daughter Joan Robson, son Andrew and grandchildren, Susanne, Candice, Jesse, Danny and Ariella as well as several nieces and nephews. Jean was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, and moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba at an early age where she grew up and raised her family. She joined the work force once her children were older and worked a number of years at the University of Manitoba in the History Department before retiring in 1979. She will be remembered with love as a truly devoted and involved mother and grandmother as well as a wonderful friend to many. Her engaging personality attracted others to her wherever she went. She remained fully involved in life, sharp as a tack, and game for any activities for as long as was physically possible. Mom was an inspiration to all those around her for her motivation and perseverance, even when faced with huge challenges, especially in the last months of her life. The family would like to thank Mom's devoted friends and extended family (Gerri and David Carey) for their constant support, as well as Elie for the strength and encouragement she gave to Mom over the last few difficult months. Also, special thanks is extended to the Home Care program and staff on the Palliative Care Unit at Riverview Health Centre, who treated Mom always with kindness and dignity. An informal come and go reception to celebrate Jean's life and share memories, will be held on Saturday, April 4, 2009 from 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Lindenholm Place, 885 Wilkes Ave. (2nd Floor Lounge). A private family graveside service will be held earlier in the day. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Palliative Care Unit (3E), Riverview Health Centre, 1 Morley Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3L 2P4 or a charity of one's choice in Jean's memory would be greatly appreciated.
