EDWARD GORDON KORCHYNSKI Ed passed away peacefully on March 30, 2009 at Concordia Hospital, just nine days after his 81st birthday. He was born March 21, 1928. Ed was predeceased by his parents, his brothers Lloyd and Sandy, and his sisters Pauline and Irene. He leaves behind to lovingly remember him his niece Lisa (Art) and favourite grand-niece Hanna; his sister-in-law Margaret; his half-brother Ron and niece Anne (White Rock, BC); his niece Dianne and his grand-niece and nephew, Ananda and Leo (Toronto, ON). Ed was born in Winnipeg and raised in Elmwood. He was employed at Canadian Pacific Railway and worked there for 42 years, retiring in 1986. During retirement he enjoyed visiting with his buddies over a beer at the LaSalle Hotel. Dave, Jack and Peter Kisil were very important in Ed's life. They treated him like family and always looked out for him. Ed liked to play the occasional VLT and loved his scratch' tickets and 649's. He went on numerous day trips to Gimli to try his luck there, often enjoying a great fish dinner before heading back to Winnipeg. An avid sports fan, Ed spent many weekends taking in as many games as were broadcasted on television. He had a memory for sports and history unequaled by any. It hardly seemed to matter what sport, Ed had the answer. Ed was a person of unlimited generosity and a very caring man. He never forgot a birthday or anniversary, always sending a card with a little something inside it. Ed loved to treat his family at his favourite restaurant Rae and Jerry's. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Concordia Hospital 3E for their care and compassion during this tough time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ed's name to the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, 675 McDermot Avenue, Room ON 1160, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 (ph 787-4143). To those who knew and loved him, his memory will never grow old. Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 6 at Desjardins Funeral Chapel, 357 Des Meurons Street. Interment of the cremated remains will take place at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens at a later date.
