Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLENA SAWCHUK Peacefully on April 3, 2009 at Holy Family Home, Lena Sawchuk passed away at the age of 95 years. Lena was born in Narol, MB on July 16, 1913. At the age of 18 years she moved to Kenora, ON where she met and married William Sawchuk having resided there for 54 years. Lena was active in the CWL of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church in Kenora for many years and was famous for her baking that she made for fundraising events and teas at the church. Mom moved to Winnipeg in 1986 and continued with her culinary skills at her new residence at St. John Haven and Holy Family Church. She was also an avid reader until failing eyesight made it difficult for her to pursue this passion. Lena resided at St. John's Haven for 16 years and moved to Holy Family Home in February of 2002. Lena is survived by her children, Don (Kate), Ray (Cecilia); grandchildren, Dana (David), Laura (Paul), Lisa (Jason), Michael and John (Teena); great-grandchildren, Jeremy, Jordan, Joel, Olivia, Michael and Daniel. She was predeceased by her husband William in 1985; sister Anne Ratuski; brothers, Nick and Mike Gerega; and great-grandson Dex. The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the staff of St. Mary's and St. Francis wards, the Physiotherapy Department and Pastoral Care at Holy Family Home and to Dr. P. Connelly for the care given, compassion and respect shown to our mother during her time there. Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 7 at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main St. with a Redemptorist Father officiating. Cremation to follow.
