MARGARETHA (MARGARET) DYCK In her 93rd year Margaret Dyck passed away peacefully on April 2, 2009 at the Bethania Personal Care Home in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Left to remember her are her sister, Helen Susan (Janzen); her nephews and nieces, John (Beverley), Karen (Richard), Vernon (Roberta), Kathy (Dennis), Charles (Jasmine) and Beth, and many cousins and friends. Margaret was predeceased by her parents, Helena (Janzen) Dyck and Heinrich Dyck; her brothers Heinrich and Gerhard Dyck and her sister Katharina. Gerhard and Katharina died in Russia at an early age. Margaret was the second child born to Heinrich and Helena Dyck in Neu Steppino, Russia now the Ukraine. At the age of 10 she immigrated into Canada with her family where her father settled on a farm in Pigeon Lake, Manitoba. Since there was no school near their farm Margaret with her brother attended school in Springstein and stayed with her Uncle and Aunt Grish Dueck. After two years the school at St. Francis was considered suitable and they transferred nearer to home. At the farm Margaret helped with family chores. In particular she liked working with chickens. Later she moved to Winnipeg and worked at a biscuit factory, National Jewellers and the Winnipeg General Hospital. After retirement Margaret lived in a senior citizens' apartment in St. Vital, in Bethania House and finally in the Bethania Personal Care Home. Margaret remained a member of the Schoenfelder Mennonite Church in Pigeon Lake where her parents are buried in the church cemetery. At Bethania Margaret is remembered for her skill at playing board games, her love of watching game shows on TV and sampling french fries at Skinners in Lockport, Manitoba. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at Friends Funeral Service 2146 Main Street with interment to follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. Viewing one hour prior to the service. We remember Margaret with fondness. Instead of flowers, please donate to the Manitoba Lung Association or Bethania Mennonite Personal Care Home available at the service. Friends Funeral Service in care of arrangements.
