Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBERNICE MAE ANDERSON Surrounded by her family, after a courageous battle with cancer, Bernice Mae Anderson passed away on April 3, 2009 at the Gimli Community Health Centre. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband George; sons, Mark (Jillian), Eric; sisters, Stebba, Sylvia (David); brothers, Harvard (Lenore) and Donald, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Adalgrimur Harry Heidman and Mabel Heidman (nee Johnson); sisters, Ena (John), Lyla (Harold), Margaret; brothers, Barney (Margaret), Carl (Dorothy), Victor (Gwen) and Eddy (Helen). Bernice was born in Glenboro, Manitoba on February 7, 1933. She attended Patricia and Glenboro Schools. As a young woman, she worked as an egg grader in the Glenboro Creamery, then operated the newsstand in the CPR Station in Winnipeg. George and Bernice married in Glenboro in 1962, and adopted Mark in 1965 and Eric in 1967. She dedicated almost half of her life caring for the elderly in various Winnipeg nursing homes, as well as her own mother in her final years. After their retirement George and Bernice moved to Sandy Hook in 1995 and to Gimli in 2002. She continued to offer her time volunteering and helping in the community. In her later years she enjoyed floor curling and golf with the Gimli New Horizon's. She also took great joy in caring for her flowers and sharing them with others. Her pride and joy was her two sons. Even in her final moments, her biggest concern was not for herself, but for her boys (and Daddy too) getting enough to eat. Caring for her family and others, (and saying exactly what was on her mind, of course) was the essence of Mom . She will be truly missed. The family sends a special thanks to all the staff at the Gimli Community Health Centre for their warmth and compassion in Mom's final days. The family wishes to extend an invitation to a memorial gathering in the Atrium of the Rotary Towers in Gimli on Thursday, April 9 at 2:00 p.m. At Bernice's request, cremation has taken place. There will be a graveside service in the Glenboro Cemetery on Saturday, April 11, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. Gilbart Funeral Home, Gimli in care of arrangements.
