ROGER JAMES WALLS 1937 - 2009 Passed away peacefully on April 5, 2009 in St. Paul's Hospital in Saskatoon with family at his side. He died of complications from a neck wound caused by a gun shot fired by a hired assassin on his beloved island of Roatan, Honduras. Roger was engaged in several land development projects on the island and unfortunately became involved with people who stood to gain a great deal through his passing. Roger expressed his gratitude to Grant Noren of Red Deer for being instrumental in saving his life after the assault. He was a fun loving, free spirit whose adventurous nature led him to have life experiences enjoyed by few. He is survived by his brother Victor (Wendy) of Red Deer, Alberta, his sister-in-law Mary (Mrs. Alan Walls) of Winnipeg, and many nieces and nephews including Norma Anania (Vin), Craig Walls, Keith Walls and Richard Walls (Pat), all of Winnipeg; Noreen Yablecki (Glen) of Seattle; Bruce Walls (Karen) of Saskatoon and Janice Briggs (Darcy) of Calgary; Karen Walls, Kate Walls (Glen Gauthier) and Roger Walls (Mona) of Red Deer and David Moody (Debbie) of Saskatoon together with many grandnieces and grandnephews. Daily visits by his grandniece Desiree Moody helped provide a very comforting and meaningful last month to his life. Roger was predeceased by his mother and father Dorothy and Arthur Walls, his sister Ruth Moody and a nephew Richard Moody all of Saskatoon; his brother Alan and infant nephew Alan of Winnipeg. Roger practiced architecture in Saskatoon from 1961 to 1984 during which time he worked on the Design Team for the Royal University Hospital, and designed many Saskatoon buildings including the Community Clinic, the Frances Morrison Public Library, the Holy Family Catholic Church, the Saskatoon Funeral Home, the Sturdy Stone Centre, as well as many other Saskatchewan landmarks. He was a past president of the Saskatchewan Association of Architects. He retired from active practice in 1984 to pursue his passion for sailing which resulted in the accumulation of many, many friends in the Western Hemisphere. He will be sadly missed by all whoever knew him and enjoyed his off the wall personality and endless anecdotes. The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the many doctors and nurses in the Intensive Care Units of both the Royal University Hospital and St. Paul's Hospital for their care and kindness. A memorial service will be held on Saturday April 18 at 2:00 p.m. at the Saskatoon Funeral Home, 338 - 4th Avenue North. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages memorial donations to the hospital foundations of both the Royal University Hospital and St. Paul's Hospital in Saskatoon.
