Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryESTHER RIVA CHODIRKER April 30, 1924 - April 5, 2009 On Sunday, April 5, 2009, Esther Chodirker, passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness. Esther is survived by her children Susan (Evan Muzychuk) and Bernie (Gina), grandchildren Aaron, Cindy and Danny and her sister Pearl Smith, of Calgary, as well many nieces, nephews and cousins. Esther was predeceased by her husband Morris and her parents Harry and Minnie Lerner. The funeral took place at Congregation Etz Chayim with interment at the Hebrew Sick Cemetery. Pallbearers were Aaron Chodirker, Barry Chodirker, Shalom Coodin, Sheldon Finkel, Grant Zipursky and Sheldon Zipursky. Honourary pallbearers were Evan Muzychuk, Terry Willerton and Dennis Doyle. Esther grew up in the north end and graduated from St. John's High School. Esther worked in a variety of jobs. She spent most of her working years at Ben Levi Agencies. After retirement, she kept very busy with hobbies and with volunteering. She sewed, knitted and crocheted for friends, family and charities. Esther was an active volunteer for the Lehava Chapter of Pioneer Women. She took great pride in her involvement in creating their popular cookbook. Esther was also very active in the Beth Israel Synagogue Sisterhood and was recognized for her outstanding dedication and service. Esther and Morris were happily married for 40 years, until his death in 1993. Their house was the meeting place for family and friends. Esther was well known as a great cook and baker. Esther absolutely loved being a Baba. Her grandchildren became the most important thing in her life and her grandchildren loved spending time at Baba's. Esther's health started to decline in August of 2005. She spent her last years at Tuxedo Villa. We wish to thank all the staff on Stn. 3 at Tuxedo Villa, as well as Drs. Karen Moran de Muller and Kathy Ross for all their care. Esther will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, the Alzheimer Society or to a charity of choice.
