MARSHA CAROLYN MILNER (CORY) March 16, 1956 - April 6, 2009 It is with profound sadness that the family of Marsha Carolyn Milner (Cory) announces her passing on April 6, 2009 after a long and difficult struggle with cancer. Marsha was a loving daughter, mother, wife, sister, grandmother and friend. She was the eldest of eight children of Jim and Marjorie Cory and was born on her mother's birthday on March 16, 1956 in Wawanesa, MB. Following graduation from high school in 1974 she was employed as a Ward Clerk at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg. It was during that time she knew that nursing would be her calling and she enrolled in the School of Nursing at Grace Hospital from which she graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1978. That same year, she married Gordon Milner. Marsha practiced her nursing profession as a Geriatric Nurse at Beacon Hill Lodge for 25 years. Marsha was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in 1960 and managed this disease with courage and strength for 49 years. By taking great care of herself she had no complications from this condition and led a very active and full life until the cancer took hold. She loved to go for long walks and enjoyed several family trips and visiting with friends over many cups of tea. Marsha was predeceased by her dear brother Blair in 1983 and her mother Marjorie in 2004. She leaves behind her loving husband of 30 years, Gordon, sons Craig (Kate) and Michael (Angela) and little grandson Liam. Brothers Mark, Dale, Owen, Paul and Neil and sister Myra and their families will miss her very much. She was a wonderful big sister as well as a loving daughter to her dad, Jim. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marsha's name to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Canadian Cancer Society. A memorial service celebrating Marsha's life will be held on April 24, 2009 at 2:00 p.m., Meadowwood United Church, 1111 Dakota St., Winnipeg. Interment at Minnewawa Cemetery near Wawanesa to follow at a later date.
