Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryIRENE LAPOINTE (nee GOBEIL) Peacefully and surrounded by her family, on April 14, 2009, Irène Lapointe, passed away at Foyer Valade at the age of 92 years. Wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she will be missed by her three children, Gérald (Solange), Mariette (Richard), Michelle (Wayne); her seven grandchildren, Roxanne (Marc), Christine (Patrick), Stéphane (Kerrilee), Yves (Kelli), Eric, Rossel (Michelle), André (Maxine); her three great-grandchildren, Tarek, Miel, and Kane. Surviving are her sister Laurette and brother-in-law Wilfrid Rougeau, her sisters-in-law, Augustine Gobeil and Orise Macintyre, numerous nieces and nephews, amongst them Claudette and Jean Dumas, relatives and friends. Irène was predeceased by her husband Raymond, her parents, her twin sister Ida, and her brothers and sisters. Irène was born in Otterburne on May 3, 1916. Youngest of a large family, Irène and twin sister Ida had many good memories of living on the Gobeil farm. Irène enjoyed accounting, from her work at the Fromagerie in Otterburne, her career as a bank teller at the Bank Canadian National in St- Boniface, to bookkeeping for the family farm in Ste-Agathe, where she resided following her marriage to Raymond on April 10, 1950. A passion of Irène's was French grammar. She would call a dictionary a friend and kept them close by so she could help her children and grandchildren with their school work or other literary projects. Irène also enjoyed travel, always looking up to the sky when an airplane flew overhead. A great travel companion, she was always marvelled by the simplest things. Devoted, warm, and welcoming, she was always interested in world affairs and encouraged her loved ones with their projects. Always smiling and still managing to keep her wit and sense of humour even in her last days, she touched those who had the pleasure of knowing her. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Thursday, April 16, 2009 at 4:00 p.m. in the Ste-Agathe Roman Catholic Church, Father Alphonse Bongo officiating, with cremation to follow. If friends so desire, donations in Irène's memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or to Foyer Valade. A special thank you to the staff at Foyer Valade for their compassion, care, and love extended to our beloved mother during her stay and for supporting Irène with loving words and comfort care during her passage.
