BEATRIX (TRIXIE) ELEANOR TRANN It is with deep regrets that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister on April 14, 2009 at Concordia Hospital. She is survived by her husband Alvin of 64 years; her daughters, Rosemary (Morley) Selver, Maureen (Don) Playfair and son Richard and nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Jill (Roy) Jones; brothers, Jim, Walter and Don (Carol); brothers-in-law Reg Chapman and Hugh Donaghey and sisters-in-law Elsie Ryland and Shirley Trann. She was predeceased by her parents, her sisters Jean Donaghey and Wendy Chapman, her brothers, Roy, Fred, Ted and Jack Atkinson and several brothers and sisters-in-law. Trixie was born in Londonderry, North Ireland on August 6, 1921 to Fred and Elizabeth (Holmes) Atkinson. She met her future husband Alvin, a member of the Canadian Navy, in 1944 in Londonderry and they married April 2, 1945. Trixie left Ireland in July, 1946 to sail to Canada on the Queen Mary with their infant daughter Rosemary, to join her husband in Winnipeg. Trixie moved to Elmwood in 1949 and spent the rest of her life in the community, making many friends along the way. She worked for Canada Post and the T. Eaton Co. retiring in 1982. Retirement allowed her the time to travel abroad, particularly to the British Isles, to the west coast to visit her two children and several grandchildren, to the U.S. and to Lac du Bonnet. She was a member of The Manitoba War Brides Association and participated in several reunions. Trixie spent many hours doing crosswords, reading mysteries, watching western movies, knitting, playing bingo and carpet bowling at Grey Street United Church. Her greatest joy were her family, particularly her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday April 18, at 1:00 p.m. at Grey Street United Church, 651 Sandhurst Avenue (corner of Sandhurst and Grey). Service will be conducted by Rev. Bonita E. Garrett. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to all the staff at the Concordia Hospital for the warmth and compassion shown to Trixie and her family. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
