EDWARD (BUD) FREDERICK WILLIAM HARLOW Passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 16, 2009. Bud was born in Winnipeg on February 12, 1921. He graduated from St. John's High School in 1939. He served Canada proudly in the Second World War in the RCAF as a Radar Technician in Scotland and throughout Europe and North Africa. He spent over 30 years working at Monarch Life Assurance Co. until he retired in 1984. On June 7, 1947 he married the love of his life Grace and spent 48 wonderful years with her until she passed away in 1996. Bud enjoyed travelling, whether it was camping across Canada with his family or to more exotic places with Grace including Fiji and the rest of the South Sea Islands, Australia, New Zealand, Europe, Asia and Africa. He and Grace built friendships all over the world through their travels. For years they also enjoyed spending time at their cabin at Grindstone Point. Bud was a hometown sports fan and was a long time season ticket holder of the Blue Bombers, the Winnipeg Jets and the Manitoba Moose. He also loved the symphony, the theatre and going to concerts, one of his favourites being Harry Belafonte. Despite being 88, Bud still enjoyed planting his own garden and took great pride in his flowers, and most especially his tomatoes. He loved to feed the birds and would spend time just sitting on his patio watching them and especially enjoyed seeing the humming birds return every spring. He travelled to Vancouver every year to visit his sisters and daughter and will be missed by all of the friends he made out there. Bud is survived by his sons, Bob (Loretta), Al (Kira), Jim (Arlene); daughters Marie Harlow of Vancouver, BC, Wendy (Greg) Carrigan; his grandchildren, Jennifer (Dave) Johnson, Jay (Carly Olcen) of Edmonton AB, Laurie (George) Shorting, Melissa, Samantha; great-grandchildren Taylor and Avery. Bud will be dearly missed by his sisters Dot (Ed) Atwell, Barb Head both of Vancouver, BC and many other relatives and friends. His generosity and kindness will be remembered and cherished by anyone who had the pleasure of knowing Dad. A celebration of Bud's life will be held on Thursday, April 23 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice, as Dad supported so many charities throughout his long life.
