She was predeceased by daughter Karen (Derek) Tomashewski and her parents Cmdr J.E. Hurley and Dorothy (Coon) Hurley of Austin, Texas. Ruth was born in Panama on February 7, 1940 and grew up in different locals in the USA in a Navy family. She wound up in Austin, Texas where she met and married her husband, Harry, in 1960. They then moved to Harry's hometown, Winnipeg, where they raised a family and Ruth met her very close friends. Ruth spent her high school years in San Diego, California and Beeville, Texas. She was a talented artist, specializing in fiber art where she created numerous macramé pieces decorated with different fibers and sold them to people in different countries. She owned and operated The Knot Shop in Osborne Village for about seven years. Ruth also worked as a secretary at the Bank of Montreal and the Manitoba Theatre Centre. She managed a Pennington's store in Kildonan Place and last worked at the Airport for the US Immigration. She retired in 1991 and Ruth and Harry traveled to different places in the USA, the Caribbean and Portugal. Ruth's greatest pleasure, though, was returning to Winnipeg to be with her friends and family. According to Ruth's wishes there will be no formal funeral service held.
