Remaining to forever love and cherish her memory are her husband, Harry; children, Len (Carol), Tom (Judy), and Marlene; grand-children, Kevin (Val), Mark (Cynthia), Alicia, Kim (Kevin), Christine, and Michelle; great-grandchildren, Avery and Hudson; and her sister Erica. She was predeceased by her parents, Abram and Lydia Wiens; her son, Kenneth; and her three brothers, Abe, Oscar and Ted. Ruth was born in Winnipeg, on June 29, 1929. She met and married the love of her life, Harry Penner on October 27, 1951. Ruth had an overwhelmingly generous nature and a passion for children, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She worked part-time at the Bay Downtown and at Crosstown Credit Union while raising her family. Ruth was active in their church, Portage Avenue Mennonite Brethren, from Girl's Club to Ladies Fellowship Group and gave a helping hand wherever needed. We will remember Ruth for many things, including her love of pansies, knitting and crocheting, sewing, playing games, baking and spending time with family. We would like to thank the staff at Riverview Health Centre, 3 East Palliative Care, for their support and making Ruth's last days so peaceful. A celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at the Portage Avenue Church, 1420 Portage Avenue with burial prior to the service at 10:00 a.m. at Brookside Cemetery, 3001 Notre Dame Avenue. Viewing will take place on Tuesday, April 21, 2009 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gideons International available at the church.
