Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryANN V. VALLENTYNE (nee TRACY) On April 19, 2009 Ann died peacefully at Hamilton General Hospital of uterine cancer. The advanced cancer was diagnosed a bit more than a year ago and she decided to have radiation therapy but no chemotherapy. Although her mobility was severely limited in the past few months, she did not suffer any extreme pain. Her body will be cremated and there will be no funeral ceremony. Ann's husband, Jack, died in 2007. She is survived by her children, Peter, Stephen, Jane, Anne Marie, and Geoffrey, and grandchildren, Jade, Corben, Spencer, Jenna, and Tessa. In keeping with Ann's lifelong love of the cello, of music in general, and of teaching music to children, donations may be sent to the Hamilton Suzuki School of Music.

Jack was a force to be reckoned with. A meticulous scientist who focused his attention on the environmental crises of our times -- with humour, insight, and sharp wit. He was a staunch proponent of the 'ecosystem approach' - one that I wholeheartedly subscribe to. Given the perilous state of the earth today, it is the holistic concepts that ultimately must prevail if we are to have the grand turnaround that Jack and his colleagues had the foresight to articulate many decades ago.
