LORNA IRMA SCHULTZ
Date of Passing: Apr 19, 2009
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLORNA IRMA SCHULTZ Lorna Schultz died on April 19, 2009 following complications from a brief illness. She was surrounded by the love of her family at her Health Sciences Centre bedside for those final hours and moments; Angels were there too! Lornie's brothers and sisters have many fond memories of her, their baby sister . Lornie grew up on the farm owned by her parents, Martha and Herman Schultz, at Niverville, MB. She attended Niverville schools with siblings and neighborhood kids. She attended the University of Manitoba, where she achieved Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in English Literature. With her Degree in Education, she taught at Killarney, MB, Blenheim, ON, and at Tuxedo-Shaftesbury High School in Winnipeg until her retirement in 1997. Whatever we might say about Lornie and her life, she would be able to say it better; her world was words. Lorna contracted rheumatoid arthritis many years ago, and her life lesson to us all was that one can live with adversity and singularly flourish in life. Although she lived actively and independently in her own home, she kept regular contact with family, friends, neighbors and school colleagues. While at Tuxedo-Shaftesbury, Lornie met the mother of two of her students, Mark and Jeff Hand, and Lornie and Vera became best friends forever . They traveled Manitoba looking for subjects for Vera's landscape paintings, writing preparatory notes, participating in art shows or just hanging out together. Both families treasure the close bonds that were forged, not only between Vera and Lorna, but also with Mark and Jeff. Lorna was especially fond of inviting all for tea in her sunroom haven, surrounded by artwork and nature's crafts, or going out to Winnipeg's restaurants for 2 for 1s . Lornie remembered everyone and their lives with phone calls, little notes, jokes and cartoons and simple tokens hung on our doorknobs to cheer us. Lornie was such a good and caring sister, auntie and confidante, with her welcoming smile that instantly made you her friend, and all who knew her strove to follow her lead and become kinder, more loving people. Lorna leaves to mourn the loss of her indomitable spirit, her siblings and their spouses: Alma Dahl; Eileen Martel (Helmut); Linda Bartley; August Schultz; Doris Wiebe (Denver); Herb Schultz (Jan); her nieces, nephews and their families: Murray, Marty, Matthew, Terrin and Stephanie Dahl; Mervin, Tyler (Tamara) and Jared Dahl; Stanley Martel; Grace, Walter and Erin Schroeder; Laura, Darrell, Krista and Kelsey Richards; Glenn, Connie and Tayler Schultz; Curtis, Derrick and Allison Wiebe; Brad, Julie, Cassie, Lucas, Mikayla and Mackenzie Wiebe; Scott, Tammy, Macey and TJ Wiebe; Jeffrey Schultz; Dalton Schultz; her friend Vera Hand and Mark and Jeff Hand. Lorna was predeceased by her parents, Martha and Herman Schultz, cousin Reinhold Martin, brothers-in-law Rodney Bartley and Blaine Dahl. A Friendship Blessing by John Donohue May you be blessed with good friends May you learn to be a good friend to yourself May you be able to journey to that place in your soul Where there is great love, warmth, feeling and forgiveness May this change you May it transfigure that which is negative, distant or cold in you May you be brought into the real passion, kinship and affinity of belonging. May you treasure your friends. May you be good to them And may you be there for them May they bring you all the blessings, challenges, truth and light That you need for your journey. May you never be isolated But may you always be in the gentle nest of belonging with your soul friend . In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Siloam Mission or the Winnipeg Humane Society. I am really sad to see that Ms. Schultz had passed. She was one of my favorite teachers. I have fond memories of her and wanted to reach out and thank her for being such a wonderful teacher. She really helped me to love English literature though it was my weakest subject. She really cared about me and the rest of her students. When she saw me walking, she would give me a ride to school. I really wanted to write her a gratitude letter but sadly I am too late. - Posted by: Charlie Cha (student) on: Dec 14, 2024

Ms. SCHULTZ was one of the pivotal people in my life. She got me. She encouraged me and she cared about me. I know I was one of many. I hope my son has a teacher like this in his life. Now, 35 years later, I wish I had known her as a peer. She would have been a great friend. My love to her family and Vera. You were all so blessed to have had her in your lives. Me too. - Posted by: Ellie Harvie (Student) on: Mar 09, 2019
