Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEVARISTO CANIUMAN Tragically, on Saturday April 11, 2009 Evaristo, a gentle, caring, hard working Mapuche son, brother, uncle and friend was received into the open arms of his ancestors and is now resting in peace. Remaining to forever cherish Evaristo's memory are many nieces and nephews. Evaristo Caniuman Cheuquelao was born on August 4, 1948 in Contulmo, Arauco Province, Temuco, Chile. In 1974, after a year of suffering the brutal military dictatorship in Chile, he was forced to leave his beloved family and mother land. His father, Julio Caniuman Huaiquivil along with his mother, Rosa Nery Cheuquelao Millanao, and his brothers and sisters, Elisa Caniuman Cheuquelao, Celestino Caniuman Cheuquelao, Vitecindo Caniuman Cheuquelao, Elias Caniuman Cheuquelao, Graciela Caniuman Cheuquelao, Julio Caniuman Cheuquelao (Gladys Vergara) and Hortensia Caniuman Cheuquelao, never fully recovered from the departure of their beloved Evaristo. Once free from oppression, torture and suffering, he dedicated his entire life to supporting, helping and advising others who, like him, only wanted to live a peaceful, meaningful life in Canada. His unselfishness and kindness toward all he met was evident in the voices of all those who knew him; voices heard throughout the beautiful streets of Winnipeg that he was proud to call home. Family, friends and all who knew him, are shocked and saddened that his steps will no longer walk this earth. Evaristo's funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in the Silver Heights United Church, 199 Garrioch Avenue (Corner of Mount Royal Rd. and Ness Ave.). For those who wish, parking will be available in the Seventh-Day Adventist Church parking lot located on Ness Avenue. His family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Winnipeg Police service, the Medical Examiner's officer and the Health Sciences Centre Emergency Department. Thank you, Gracias, Chaltu! In lieu of flowers, friends may make a donation in Evaristo's name to an immigrant serving agency or an Aboriginal agency of their choice.
