JACK REMPEL With great sadness, we announce the passing of Jack, aged 88, on Sunday, April 19, 2009. He will be remembered by his very devoted wife Anne; his children, Don (Terri), Sandra (Tom), James (Anna) and David (Heather) his grandchildren, and other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, son Fred and grandson Benjamin. Jack met Anne and was married on June 4, 1949 and would have celebrated their 60th anniversary this year. His working career started in the grocery business with Safeway, then on to Western Grocers and Westfair Foods. After taking a very brief retirement he started working for Fleming Pedlar Refrigeration and then went on his own and Rempel Enterprises was established. When the Monday to Friday work week was done, the cottage at Lake Brereton was his passion. There was never a shortage of projects and things that needed to be done. He could be found in his work shop, tending to his numerous tomato plants and gardens or down at the dock making sure that the beavers didn't build a nest in the boat house. At the end of a busy day, he enjoyed sitting with Anne in their favourite rocking chairs, taking in the view of the lake and playing a game of Chinese Checkers. To say he loved working is an understatement. No challenge was too great, no project too big to tackle and everything he did was done his way and was seen through to completion. Viewing will be held Sunday, April 26, 2009 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main Street, Winnipeg. A celebration of his life will be held Monday, April 27, 2009 at 1:30 p.m., John Black Memorial United Church, 898 Henderson Hwy., Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6 or a charity of one's choice.
