IRENE GUEST Sadly on Tuesday April 21, 2009, Irene Guest (nee Waldron) passed away at Oakview Care Centre at the age of 95. Irene is survived by her husband of 70 years, George; her eldest daughter Alice; grandson Christopher Mason (Paulette); great-granddaughters Kya and Ali; grandson Michael Mason (Trish); great-granddaughters Alexandra and Abigail; her sister Ruth Goessaert of Burnaby, BC and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her youngest daughter Georgina Mason-Ormiston, her sisters Ethel, Edna, Rose, Gladys and brother Tom. At the age of 14, after the death of her mother, her father placed the family in the Children's Home in Indian Head, SK. Being the eldest of the family group the younger siblings looked up to Irene for guidance. It was in Indian Head that she met and married George Guest in 1939. They were known for their ice-dancing talent at local winter carnivals and as elegant partners on the dance floor. As a young adult of the depression, she learned the lessons of hard work. Irene was a proud homemaker. She enjoyed large family gatherings and is remembered for her cooking skills. Irene was somewhat nervous about her sewing abilities as her mother-in-law was a master seamstress. Throughout her life Irene was involved in church activities. She held various positions including president of her W.I. unit at Chalmers (now Greenwood) United Church. For many years she and George bowled in the C.P.R. Supervisors League and enjoyed the league's other social activities. In later years she enjoyed summers at the family cottage, at Victoria Beach and the activities of her grandchildren. On April 3rd the family celebrated Irene's 95th birthday with her. She will be greatly missed. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thanks to the staff at Oakview Care Centre, especially the staff of 2west. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Cremation has taken place. Interment will be at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Chapel Lawn 885 - 9715
