Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMAURICE YARMIE April 22, 1936 - April 21, 2009 It is with great sadness that the family of Maurice (Moe) Yarmie of Winnipeg announce his sudden but peaceful passing on Tuesday, April 21, 2009 in Calgary while he and wife Betty were visiting their daughter and her family. Moe will be dearly missed by his beloved wife Betty; their children Rodney (Rod) of Winnipeg and Deborah (Debbie) Spence of Calgary; son-in-law Greg and granddaughter Megan as well as numerous family members and friends in Canada and the U.S. He is survived by his sister Sonya (John) Dolynchuk of Selkirk, MB. Moe was born in Tolstoi, MB and was educated at Manitoba Teachers College in Winnipeg. He and Betty were married on June 3, 1961 and they raised their family in Winnipeg. Moe spent the majority of his teaching career at Stonewall Collegiate. He retired at the age of 57 and was blessed to spend 16 wonderful years with Betty enjoying the kind of retirement that most of us still working aspire to. They purchased a cabin on Beresford Lake in Manitoba's Nopiming Park. Together, they transformed a small neglected cabin into a beautiful and spacious cottage where they enjoyed many memorable visits with family and all the dear friends they made there. Moe taught his only grandchild, Megan, to fish and she loved heading out in the boat with Grandma and Grandpa whenever she visited. In 1997, Moe and Betty purchased a vacation home in Apache Junction, Arizona where they developed many close friendships with other snow birds from points across western Canada and the U.S. northwest. Over the past 12 years, they have divided their time between Arizona, where Moe loved to golf and hike, and Beresford Lake, where he spent many hours fishing and working around the cabin. He and Betty always had something to look forward to as they closed up one destination for the season and headed to the other. During their time in Arizona, they also developed a love of cruising and went on nine fabulous cruises with their friends Bonnie and Ron Seaman. Moe didn't want a photo included here. Instead, he wanted you to remember him the way he was the last time you saw him enjoying life and living it to the fullest. Following cremation in Calgary, a graveside service and celebration of Moe's life will be held in Manitoba at a later date. If friends and family so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3L 0K6; Telephone: 204-949-2000; Online: www.heartandstroke.ca.
