Date of Passing: Mar 25, 2009
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGLADYS JEAN (COLEMAN) CLARK Gladys Jean (Coleman) Clark passed away on March 25, 2009, at 101 years of age, with her family at her side. Jean was predeceased by her husband V. Glen Clark, her son Gordon Clark and her brothers Charles and Morley Coleman. Surviving are her daughter Joyce Clark (Art Ganchow); daughter-in-law Nancy Clark; grandchildren, Glen (Julie) Clark, Betsy Hubbard; five great-grandchildren, a niece and nephew. Jean was born in 1907 in a country manse near Trehearne, MB, to Rev. and Mrs. Oliver Coleman. Growing up a preacher's kid she had to make new friends frequently as they moved every few years. She attended Brandon College, graduated from Wesley College in 1927 (University of Winnipeg), and took teacher training at Norman School in Winnipeg. Jean taught in several towns in Southern Manitoba before joining the Winnipeg School District. While marking exam papers with other teachers she met Glen Clark. In 1936 they were married and soon settled in St. James where they raised their family. Glen was a teacher and principal at St. James Collegiate until his retirement in 1965, so Jean attended many Graduation Ceremonies over the years and enjoyed seeing the graduates all dressed up acting as adults. She taught and substituted at various schools in the area. For many years Jean was an active member of Deer Lodge United Church. She was an avid gardener. Jean always enjoyed learning; taking Senior Extension courses in Geography, Philosophy, and Comparative Religion at the University of Winnipeg while in her late 80's and loved the field trips, especially to Churchill to see the polar bears. Jean was able to travel several times to Europe with Joyce and visited Gord and his family in Saudi Arabia. A former resident at Lions Manor, Jean moved to Tuxedo Villa Personal Care Home for the last four years. Special thanks to all the staff including nursing, dietary and health care aides who looked after her with loving kindness. Also thank you the other residents and their families who became part of our extended family. Jean requested no formal funeral service and cremation has taken place. A family graveside service will be held at a later time at Brookside Cemetery. If friends so desire, donations may be made in her honour to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB, R3T 0R3 or a charity of their choice. NEIL BARDAL INC. 204-949-2200 nbardal.mb.ca
