Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJACK BROWNSTONE May 24, 1919 - April 13, 2009 We are sad to announce the passing of Jack Brownstone on April 13, 2009 in Palm Springs, California at age 89. He is deeply missed by his wife of 64 years, Lorraine; his children, Rochelle Rabinovitz (Mervyn), Susan Brock (Tom), Dan Brownstone, and his grandchildren, Zoey (Daniel), Deanna (Lonn) and Maggie Rabinovitz; his sister Malca Ross; brother, Buddy Brownstone (Maxine); sister-in-law, Doreen Brownstone and numerous nieces and nephews. Jack was predeceased by his parents Maggie and Charlie Brownstone, his sister, Fay Settler (Bert) and brother, Billy Brownstone. Jack was born in Southey, Saskatchewan in 1919 and grew up in Winnipeg where he attended St. John's High School. He served his country in the RCAF during the Second World War. Following the war, Jack, together with his father, Charlie, founded Brownstone's Ltd. As a result of his hard work and creativity, Brownstone's became a leading supplier of apparel to merchants throughout Canada. Jack was a humorist, a raconteur, and a true character. He embraced life and passionately pursued it. His self-effacing humour and natural openness made him both charming and approachable. He was honest, generous and lived with integrity. He had long lasting relationships with his dedicated customers well after he sold his business and retired in 1979. Jack and Lorraine spent their retirement years in Palm Springs, CA returning to Winnipeg each summer. His funeral was held at the Shaarey Zedek Synagogue in Winnipeg on April 17, 2009. Donations in his honour may be made to the charity of your choice.

I am so sorry to hear that Mister Brownstone has passed away, I have a long history with this great man. I worked for him as a garment cutter and then when he opened Lantry Leathers he wanted me to stay and supervise the factory which I had no idea and knew nothing about leather. He had confidence in me. Sent me to Red River Collage to become a fashion designer. Opened the door for me which lead me to a great future What a great man I still brag about him. Rest in peace my friend - Posted by: Stan Zysk (Employee) on: May 31, 2022

My sympathy to the Brownstone family. I knew Jack through my father who operated a general store in Austin, Manitoba. My father first met Jack's father when he sold leather jackets from town to town. My contact with Jack was when my father visited Brownstone's and while our purchases were very small each visit warranted Jack's personal attention. He was a real gentleman who always made my father and I feel very welcome. My last conversation with Jack was in his home in Palm Springs about six years ago where again I was welcomed as a friend.
